Renovation of a 1911 co-operative top floor apartment. Existing ceilings were removed, giving + 5’-0” additional height and allowing construction of a loft space. Minimal white palette of materials and custom designed elements throughout, including metal and wood stair, bathrooms and kitchen.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Working closely with Project Architect, deferring ultimately to firm's Principal.
  • Production of design development and presentation materials for client review.
  • Assisting in the production of the bid set (construction drawings and specifications)
  • Lead role during construction adminstration (shop drawing review, site inspections, coordination with contractor and sub-contractors).

Custom-designed metal and wood stairs

The creation of a new loft space necessitated the design of a stairs to access it in a very confined space. After research and numerous design iterations it was decided to design a custom metal "ship's ladder" style stair.

Threshold

The design also created a threshold space between the living space, daughter's bedroom, and bathroom.
